Earlier this month, Micro Com Systems participated in the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA) fall conference, “Wine-Ing About Records”. The conference was held in beautiful sunny Kelowna BC on October 5th through the 7th, and was the first time an exhibition of this type has been held by ARMA in Western Canada since the beginning of the pandemic. Hundreds of people attended this event, from all over Canada.
In conjunction with Fujitsu Canada, MCS exhibited several Fujitsu Scanners and marketed our many digitization services. As Bronze sponsors, MCS provided multiple Fujitsu Scanners that were given away as daily door prizes.
This show marked the first opportunity for our newest Account Representative, Quinn Diepold, to attend such an event, and to immerse himself in the approach to records management ARMA professionals live by.
Quinn has been involved in large scale wine events in BC for decades, but being somewhat new to the digitization world he was extremely impressed by the amount of expertise and knowledge held by the attendees he encountered at the conference.
The idea of documentation goes far beyond the simple idea of scanning paper. It delves into the language of records keeping. A common use of terms so there is continuity around and through the process of records keeping. Standardization so that each generation has the same knowledge base to work from.
At the conference there were educational seminars about Naming Conventions, The Psychology of Information, When Records Managers Speak to Executives, SharePoint Migrations, and a myriad of other very interesting topics.
The next time you look at an archive at a library or at a museum, please consider the effort a professionally designated and highly educated archivist put into organizing and preserving these collections.
Records keeping goes much farther and deeper than one would think. It is ubiquitous and vitally important. A tip of the hat to Records Keepers and Archivist and all the highly educated individuals and teams that do this wonderful work each day!
We need them!
